Ranui Farm Park, Waipukurau – 14th June 2020

Start Location

Event number 3 in the series. Event HQ is at Ranui Farm Park 785 Nicholls Road Waipukurau.  From Waipukurau drive on Porangahau Road, turn on to Nicholls Road. It is 7.85km from the corner, look out for the HB Trail Running and Hammer Flags.

You can park in the carpark and in the overflow parking just up the road. If you are late arriving you may have a bit of a walk so plan to be early.  We will start on time.

Food and Drink!

Ranui Farm Park has its own little cafe and they will be operating on race day just for us. They will be supplying us with your free hot drink for after the run (and before if need be) and also selling some tasty treats from Trevor’s Mum Jean so you just know they are going to be good. Bring some cash with you.

Please Note!

This is a working farm and we have to abide by the rules which means that you leave your dogs/cats/parrots etc at home as we don’t want the sheep & cattle scared. NO DOGS ALLOWED! The course traverses private land, do not use the tracks on this private land at any other time.

Briefing and Start Times

Registration will be open from 8:00am. Collect your timing number from the registration area. This is where you return your timing chip to after your race also.

Half Marathon: Compulsory Briefing 9:15am, start time is 9:30 am.

Medium Course: Compulsory Briefing 9:45am, start time is 10:00am.

Short Course: Compulsory Briefing 10:15am, start time is 10:30am.

The half marathon course will have a cut off at the Start/Finish area. If you are unable to make this point by 12:00pm you will be not be permitted to continue on the course. If you can’t make this point in 2.5 hours you won’t be able to make the finish by the cut off time at 1:30pm.

Latest finish time for individual runners is 1:30 pm. Finishers after that time will be shown as DNF in the results.

Course Information

All distances are approximate and within 5% +/- of the stated figure, give or take a bit.  These are trail runs and the wrong place to look for precision.  The courses are exacting, but not exact. That being said, the ½ marathons will be pretty close to being a half marathon.

Now this is a tricky one… As you are running across farm land, farmers don’t tend to have readily available name tags for their paddocks so it’s way too complicated to give you detailed instructions (for example run through the paddock go over the gate and um then run through the paddock and so on…) for this one so you’ll have to rely on the markers being in place. It’s not been a problem in the past, so all should be good. There will be arrows to turn you and brightly coloured tape so you can see where to go.

Half Marathon Course 2 Laps

This one starts off by traversing across a paddock before heading into some awesome hand cut single trail. From there you have rolling paddocks to cross more single track and one main long farm track which has a nice mown strip so it is fairly easy to see where to go with some fantastic views over Central Hawke’s Bay.

From there you traverse through a nice valley with more hand cut trail back up towards the start finish area across the timing mat and back out on your second lap.

Stick to the tracks at all times, following the arrows and the line of pickets if the track is not overly clear.

We will setup a table for those of you that want to run light and have some of your own food and water waiting for you at the end of your first lap.

Medium Course ~ 12km

This one is very similar to the half marathon course above but you just complete one full lap for your 12km.

Stick to the tracks at all times, following the arrows and the line of pickets if the track is not overly clear.

One lap of each of these trails is all you run for the medium course.

Short Course ~ 5.5km

This one starts off with a lovely loop around a pond and some native plants before winding your way around some tress and then into some fantastic hand cut trails.

Once you have completed the trails loop there is only a short 500m dash across a paddock back to the start finish area.

Stick to the tracks at all times, following the line of pickets if the track is not overly clear.
