Te Mata Park, Matangi Road – 5th May 2019

Start Location

292 Matangi Rd - Cattle YardsEvent number 2 in the series. Event HQ is at the cattle yards close to 292 Matangi Road.  Turn right on to Matangi Road immediately before the bridge over the Tukituki river when coming from Havelock North. Look for the HB Trail Run and Hammer flags.  Head down the road until you see us.

You can park on the grass verge leaving the road clear please.  If you are late arriving you may have a bit of a walk so plan to be early.  We will start on time.

Please Note!

This is a working farm and we have to abide by the rules which means that you leave your dogs/cats/parrots etc at home as we don’t want the sheep & cattle scared! NO DOGS ALLOWED! The course traverses private land until you reach the trails around Te Mata Peak. Access the trails on Te Mata Peak at any time from the normal access points, but please, do not use the tracks on this private land at any other time.

If you are unable to make this point by 12:00pm you will be not be permitted to continue on the course. If you can’t make this point in 2.5 hours you won’t be able to make the finish by the cut off time at 1:30pm.

Course Information

All distances are approximate and within 5% +/- of the stated figure, give or take a bit.  These are trail runs and the wrong place to look for precision.  The courses are exacting, but not exact. That being said, the ½ marathons will be pretty close to being a half marathon.

Now this is a tricky one… As you are running across farm land, farmers don’t tend to have readily available name tags for their paddocks so it’s way too complicated to give you detailed instructions (for example run through the paddock go over the gate and um then run through the paddock and so on…) for this one so you’ll have to rely on the markers being in place. It’s not been a problem in the past, so all should be good. There will be arrows to turn you and pickets with tape on them so you can see where to go.

Half Marathon Course 2 laps!

This one starts off with a fairly short warm up paddock before you are into your first climb.

From there you will follow the main farm track (which is your main out and back track) to the bottom of the Redwoods at Te Mata Park.

You make your way up through the Redwoods and onto a loop around Te Mata Park staying pretty much on the Yellow (Karaka Wander) track but we will have our own markers out there to guide you the right way.

From there you head back along on the main farm track again. A left turn takes you onto a fast decent and back to the start/finish area where you will run over the timing mat smiling before starting your second lap of the above.

Course marking on Te Mata Park will be arrows on pickets and a lot of PINK tape!

Stick to the tracks at all times, following the arrows and the line of pickets if the track is not overly clear.

Medium Course ~ 11km

This course is the same as the half marathon course above but you only need to complete one full lap of the trails.

Stick to the tracks at all times, following the arrows and the line of pickets if the track is not overly clear.

One lap of the trails is all you run for the medium course. Unless of course you want to run up the hill again….

Short Course ~ 6km

This one starts off with a fairly short warm up paddock before you are into your first climb.

From there you will follow the main farm track (which is your main out and back track) to the bottom of the Redwoods at Te Mata Park.

Once you get to our marshal station and course split point which will have signs and a flag telling you to turn, you head back along the main farm track.

A left turn takes you onto a fast decent and back to the start finish area where you will run over the timing mat smiling.

Stick to the tracks at all times, following the line of pickets if the track is not overly clear.
